Development or Progression: The symptoms of Schizophrenia are usually the only thing that will change over time. There are three types of symptoms: Positive, Negative, and Cognitive. Positive symptoms of Schizophrenia are symptoms that usually do not take place in a person who is not affected by Schizophrenia. These include delusions or illusions, believing that you have special abilities, etc. Negative symptoms are the lack of symptoms that usually ARE present in someone who is not affected by Schizophrenia. Including the lack of personal hygiene, refusing to speak, unable to show expression, etc. And lastly, cognitive symptoms are the symptoms that appear caused from the confusion taking place in the brain. For example, acting "weird" or not normal during certain situations, unpredictable behaviors, etc. These symptoms can change over time for someone who has Schizophrenia.
Treatment or Prevention: There is no prevention for Schizophrenia. There is no knowing who is and isn't going to have it, therefore there is no way of stopping it once you've already have the disorder. But there is treatment. The person can go to Psychotherapy, which is therapy that helps the person maintain and develop social skills, regaining the ability and motivation to take care of themselves, and also allows for someone to be supportive of their goals. There's also the option of family therapy, which allows families to express and talk about their feelings about having a family member with Schizophrenia and learn how to deal with it efficiently. There are also many medications out there to reduce Schizophrenic symptoms and help people with Schizophrenia lead a more natural life.
